About the TCC
The Textile Conservation Centre is the leading international organisation in the field of textile conservation research, education and practice. Its work has now broadened to respond to the dynamic social and intellectual challenges of the heritage sector, both nationally and internationally.
Students of conservation and museums & galleries study alongside each other, so building a mutual understanding of the wider sector in which they will work. High quality teaching, offered by some of the best practitioners in their fields, draws students to the Centre from around the world.
The TCC was founded in 1975 by Karen Finch OBE and was based at Hampton Court Palace for nearly 25 years. In 1998 the Centre merged with the University of Southampton, one of the UK’s top research-led universities, and in 1999 relocated to purpose-designed building on the University’s campus in the beautiful, historic town of Winchester.
They offer postgraduate courses, undertake research and offer commercial services (ranging from consultancy and analysis to full conservation).
Following a detailed review of the viability of the Textile Conservation Centre (TCC), the University of Southampton’s Council has decided that the Centre will close in late 2009.
